Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Email messages are retained as needed to respond. They remain within the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers may collect routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- IP address assigned to the device
- Visited pages and time spent on them
- Referring site, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure traffic patterns, popular pages, and exit points. Analytics services combine those usage signals. Browser controls can block cookies, though some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing technical faults
- Operating and improving site performance
- Routing a query to the selected search provider
- Measuring which content visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Skagit County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. It publishes general directions to the Sheriff, local courts, Washington State Patrol, and Washington Sex Offender Public Registry channels. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy policies govern submitted terms, retention, and disclosure. Review the provider’s policy before sending a query because those practices are beyond our control.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Skagit County Sheriff, the Clerk's Odyssey access page, the county jail roster, Washington agencies, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination’s privacy terms apply. Read them before sharing personal information.
Advertising firms may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and tailor ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring performance and traffic
- Search providers processing a submitted query
- Advertising networks serving site ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used for collected information. No internet-connected system can guarantee complete protection, so a breach-free service cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information known to have come from a minor will be deleted.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence. Washington protections include the Consumer Protection Act, chapter 19.86 RCW. Government record access and criminal-history dissemination are separately governed by the Washington Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, and Criminal Records Privacy Act, chapter 10.97 RCW. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of qualifying data
- Ask what personal data is retained
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Object to certain processing where the law provides that choice
